Men’s Tennis Takes Down Cleveland State 6-1

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team closed out the weekend with another win this time against Cleveland State. The Cardinals (2-0) took down the Vikings (0-2) by a score of 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the Northwest YMCA.
For the second-straight match the Cardinals won the doubles point. First of the court was the No. 1 twosome of Danilo Kovacevic and Chris Adams. The top duo for Ball State only gave up one game to the Vikings Maxime Mareschal-Hay and Clark Bilinovich, winning the match 6-1.
The doubles point was then claimed by Parrish Simmons and teammate Vince Orlando on court three as the duo won by a score of 6-2 versus Cleveland State's Juandedio Abboud and Austin Staiger.
Orlando and Eli Herran were the first two off the court in singles action, pushing the Cardinals lead to 3-0 over the Vikings. Orlando won 6-2, 6-1 at position six over Abboud and Herran finished with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 spot.
With the Cardinals needing one more point, Cleveland State had made it a close competition taking first sets on three of the front four courts. The Vikings made it a 3-1 match after earning a straight set victory at position one.
As three courts remained, the winning point was decided by the true freshman Nathaniel Webster for the second-straight match after fighting his way through a three-set thriller over Cleveland State's Bilinovich on court three, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Rounding out the victories for Ball State were Kovacevic and Adams on courts two and four, respectively.
The Ball State men's tennis team heads to Charlottesville, Va. for two matches at the Virginia ITA Kickoff Weekend against Virginia (Jan. 29) and or Georgia Tech/Middle Tennessee (Jan. 30). The match against the Cavaliers will be played at 12 pm ET Saturday. The consolation match will be Sunday at 10 a.m. ET and the championship match first serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
