Football Places 12 on Phil Steele Preseason All-MAC Teams

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State football team was well represented on Phil Steele College Football Preview's 2021 preseason All-Mid-American Conference Team, with 12 Cardinals earning a spot on the list.

Highlighting the list for Ball State was a quartet of first-team selections led by wide receiver Justin Hall who also earned a spot on the third team as a kick returner. Ball State's other first-team honorees include offensive lineman Curtis Blackwell, linebacker Brandon Martin, and safety Bryce Cosby.

Quarterback Drew Plitt and linebacker Christian Albright both earned a spot on the second team.

Representing the Cardinals on the third team were wide receiver Yo'Heinz Tyler, defensive end Chris Agyemang, linebacker Jaylin Thomas, linebacker Anthony Ekpe, cornerback Amechi Uzodinma II, punter Nathan Snyder, and Hall.

The Cardinals' 13 total selections were the third-most in the league, trailing only Western Michigan (15) and Central Michigan (14).

Eight of the 12 Ball State players on the list were seniors in 2020 who are taking advantage of the additional year of eligibility offered by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, all 12 players named to Phil Steele's list also earned a spot on the Athlon Preseason All-MAC teams released at the end of May.

Ball State returns 16 total "super seniors" and 20 starters from a team that won the program's first MAC title since 1996 and won the first bowl game in school history. The Cardinals finished 7-1 last fall to earn a year-end ranking of No. 23 in both the AP and Amway Coaches polls.

The 2021 Ball State football season is set to begin Thursday, Sept. 2, with a 7 p.m. kickoff versus Western Illinois.
