Softball Places League-High 13 on Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - The Ball State softball team placed a league-high 13 student-athletes on the 2021 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team as announced by the league office Tuesday (June 21).

Leading the group is three-time honoree Haley Dominique who received her public administration certificate this spring. Dominique also earned her bachelor's degree in business administration in the spring of 2020.

Overall, nine of the program's 13 award winners have already earned their diplomas from Ball State University.

All five of the Cardinals' two-time award winners are graduates, including Darcie Huber (spring 2020 - finance), Katie Janiga (spring 2021 - pre-nursing), Gabby Magnifico (spring 2020 - biology), Stacy Payton (spring 2021 - biology), and Kennedy Wynn (summer 2020 - exercise science).

Ball State also had seven first-time award winners in graduates Janae Hogg (spring 2020 - sport administration), Delanie Johnson (spring 2021 - applied behavior analysis) and Alyssa Rothwell (fall 2020 - early childhood education), as well as redshirt sophomore Jazmyne Armendariz, junior Faith Hensley, junior Tieghan Morio, and sophomore Haley Wynn.

A total of 116 student-athletes earned the Academic All-MAC distinction in softball by maintaining at least a 3.2 GPA and participating in at least half of the team's contests for the season, with an exemption to the 50 percent rule for pitchers. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, Academic All-MAC was not awarded in softball for the 2020 season.

The Ball State softball team closed the 2021 campaign with a 37-18 overall record, including a 31-8 ledger in MAC play. BSU's 31 league wins were a program record, as were the team's .329 batting average and .415 on-base percentage.

The 2021 squad also produced the longest single-season MAC winning streak in program history at 16 games and tied a program record with an 11-game winning streak. The Cardinals finished second in the MAC regular season race, trailing only Miami (36-2).
