Cardinals Post PRs, Collect Wins At Notre Dame
May 01, 2021 | Track & Field
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Ball State track & field team set seven PR marks and collected six event wins in an impressive showing Saturday at Notre Dame.
"It was a really good meet for us," head coach Brian Etelman said. "We had an impressive amount of PRs. It was perfect for what we were looking to accomplish and gives us one last confidence builder (before the conference meet)."
The 4x100 relay team (McKee-Lehmann-Norman-Byrdson) was back intact and posted a victory with a 45.30 mark, despite battling heavy winds. Etelman said the winds were approaching 40 miles per hour and conditions were tough around the track.
Bryeana Byrdsong, in addition to her leg on the relay, won the 100m race with a season-best 11.63 time. It was her 22nd career race win. Cardinals went 1-2-3 in that event, with Michelle Lehmann and Ivy McKee right behind her both with sub-12 times.
MaQuila Norman set an outdoor PR with a 23.93 en route to winning the 200m, another event where the Cards went 1-2-3. Lehmann clocked 24.04 and McKee 24.40. Lehmann's times in both sprints were PR performances, and McKee's 100m time was her PR.
In hurdles, Anasja Troutman had a career day, winning the 100m hurdle (13.79) and the 400m hurdle (1:03.68). The 100 hurdle mark was a PR and the 400 hurdle time was a season-best performance.Â
Charity Griffith was the top performer at the high jump with a 1.70m mark, a PR for her and two inches better than the runners-up from Notre Dame. Karlie Zumbro threw the shot for a PR mark of 9.82m in addition to placing 7th in the 100m hurdles.
This Notre Dame meet was added to the schedule to provide a final competition before the conference championships at Miami May 7-8. Etelman liked how the team performed and said the team got exactly what it needed out of the experience.Â
"Today was an opportunity for us to build some positive competitive momentum going into the MAC meet next weekend," he said. "We're in a great spot and we're happy with it."
