
Women’s Tennis Claims 6-1 Victory Over NIU On Senior Day

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Cardinals wrapped up the month of April with an undefeated record for the first time in program history under the direction of eighth-year head coach Max Norris after winning their 22nd straight victory while continuing to remain undefeated in Mid-American Conference action with an 13-0 league ledger.
Ball State (22-2, 13-0 MAC) defeated Northern Illinois (14-14, 6-7 MAC) by a score of 6-1 Friday afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. After the match, the Cardinals paid tribute to their three seniors Martina Bocchi, Rebecca Herrington and Victoria Sec.
Mariya Polishchuk and Jessica Braun would earn the first point today for the Cardinals after registering a 6-2 win on court three over NIU's Lara Slisko and Fernandz Naves. The doubles point would then be claimed by the undefeated duo and No. 87 team in country of Sec and Livia Lukacs. Sec and Lukacs earned a 6-2 decision on court two over the Huskies Iulliia Dmitrieva and Diana Lukaynova.
After that, Ball State raced out to take an impressive lead in singles play, taking first sets on five of the six courts from the Huskies. Braun had a dominating performance at the No. 3 spot only giving up one game to Lukyanova, winning the match, 6-0, 6-1. Silvia Martinez followed Braun's lead with a quick exit off of court six posting a straight set defeat versus Dmitrieva, 6-1, 6-1.
Today's match winner came down to veteran Herrington at No. 4 singles after she beat Naves, 6-2, 6-3.
Emma Peeler and Lukacs were also winners today at the No. 1 and No. 5 positions, respectively.
The Ball State women's tennis team wraps up its regular season when it plays at Toledo Sunday for a 1 p.m. ET start at UT Varsity Courts.
Last weekend, the Cardinals claimed the program's third Mid-American Conference regular season championship in the past five seasons and locked up the berth into the NCAA Championship for only the second time in program history. Ball State will find out its NCAA Tournament destination on Monday at 6 p.m. ET.
