Batts Stands Out In Hurdles, Sprinters Post PRs At Louisville
April 03, 2021 | Track & Field
LOUISVILLE - It's now the midpoint of the indoor track season and after a strong showing at the Louisville Invitational, head coach Brian Etelman likes where the Cardinals are. With a week off and two meets before the conference championships, PRs in the 200, 1500, 3K steeplechase, high jump and in hurdles have the Cardinals in a good midpoint spot.Â
"We had a good day across the board," head coach Brian Etelman said. If you look at the regional rankings and event rankings in the MAC, we're in a really good spot. It gives us confidence to close out the season the way we expect to. We're in a good place, we just need to close out well."
Kennedy Batts won the 400m hurdles with a 1:02.84 mark, a PR for her. She also placed second with a 14.10 performance in the 100m hurdles.
"Kennedy is so reliable and she's come a long way," Etelman said. "She can run both short and long hurdles and give you a good relay leg. She works hard for it and it's good to see her rewarded with success."
Bryeana Byrdsong clocked 24.01 in the 200m to finish second, her second-best run of the season. Michelle Lehmann had a PR run of 25.04 to place fourth in the 200m and Ivy McKee (25.04) placed sixth. MaQuila Norman placed third in the 400m with a strong 58.94 and Elka Machan turned in a PR time of 4:34.57 in the 1500m, good for third place. Kayla Jones placed third in the 800m at 2:14.24.Â
Juliana Stogsdill's 3K steeplechase time of 11:12.06 was a PR and a first-place performance and Jenelle Rogers jumped a PR mark of 5'7.25" to place second in the high jump.
Ball State is idle next week and will be in a very strong field at Vanderbilt's Black & Gold Invitational April 16-17.
