Cardinals Ready For Vanderbilt's Black & Gold Meet
April 15, 2021 | Track & Field
After a week off and some amped up training, the Ball State track & field team heads to Vanderbilt to compete in a great field this weekend.Â
"We're fired up and ready to go," head coach Brian Etelman said. "We targeted this meet as the kick off to the second half of our season, so we know what we've done. The first half was really, really good. We're in a phenomenal spot right now - training has been really good the past two weeks.Â
Competing in warmer weather against a strong field, Etelman says this weekend is a good catalyst for a strong finish to the spring, which means peaking during conference championship time.
"The fact of the matter is the championships meet is less than three weeks away. Mentally, we need to be in a championship mindset and physically, we need to perform like champions," the head coach said. "And we have a team capable of doing that. We just want to take advantage of our opportunities, have fun and go out there and let it rip."Â
Former national champion Cardinal LaTasha Jenkins still owns the 100m and 200m facility records at Vanderbilt. She ran 11.05 in the 100m and 22.59 in the 200m both on March 27, 2002.Â
The MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships are at Miami May 7-8.Â
