The home stretch of the regular season begins this weekend when the Ball State baseball team travels to Bowling Green. The Cardinals, tied for first place in the conference, enter the weekend having won five straight and six of their last seven games.
Ball State (25-11 overall, 16-4) hit .318 as a team last weekend in a sweep over Northern Illinois. The Cardinals won all four games by a combined 26-9 margin, including a run-rule on Sunday. Ross Messina went 6-for-11, including a pivotal 3-run homer in a 6-5 win on Saturday. Noah Navarro had six hits and Trenton Quartermaine and Ryan Peltier each had five hits.
John Baker was named MAC Pitcher of the Week (along with Ohio's Joe Rock) after a complete game win last Friday. Baker surpassed Bryan Bullington for the school record for career strikeouts - he now has 359. Â
Bowling Green (11-19, 9-11) is in eighth place after a split at Western Michigan last week. BG won the series finale 20-6.
