Women’s Tennis Keeps Win Streak Alive; Defeats Buffalo 4-3
April 18, 2021 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team pulled off another 4-3 victory Sunday afternoon at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center but this time it was against Buffalo.
With the win, Ball State (19-2, 10-0 MAC) extended its win streak to 19 while remaining the only undefeated team in Mid-American Conference action with a 10-0 league ledger while Buffalo dropped to 6-7 overall and 3-7 in MAC play.
"Great job today against a very talented and tough Buffalo team," Ball State head coach Max Norris said. "We tried to focus today on our starts in doubles and singles and I think we did better. We are excited for next weekend."
After Friday's match Norris said he would have his team prepared in doubles and he wasn't lying. The Cardinals turned in a dominating performance to take the early 1-0 edge over Buffalo after posting victories on courts one and two, respectively.
Emma Peeler alongside partner Amy Kaplan had a quick exit at the No. 1 singles spot after not giving up a point to UB's Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou and Pia Schwarz for the 6-0 win. Shortly after, Livia Lukacs and Victoria Sec earned a 6-3 decision over Buffalo's No. 2 duo of Lolina Sedas and Azra Comlek.
The Cardinals took control early in singles play as Kaplan was the first off the court with a 6-3, 6-0 defeat over Ambre Amat at the No. 4 spot. Mariya Polishchuk followed Kaplan's lead posting a straight set take down over Hsin-Yuan Shih on court three, 6-1, 6-4 to push BSU's lead over Buffalo to 3-0.
Jessica Braun, who had taking the first set over Buffalo's No. 3 singles player Gabriella Akopyan, 6-2, had a close second set but managed to squeak past Akopyan by a score of 7-5 to win the match for Ball State.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action on Friday when it travels to Miami for a 1 p.m. ET first serve at the Miami Tennis Courts.
