March 04, 2021 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - Today's match didn't come easy for the Cardinals, but after losing the doubles point to the Flyers BSU fought back in singles to take the match from Dayton 5-2 Thursday afternoon at the Northwest YMCA.
Ball State (9-1) is off to one of its best spring starts, extending its win streak to nine with its victory over Dayton (5-5).
The Cardinals have proven that they are resilient in some tough situations and today's match was no different.
After Dayton won the doubles point, Ball State earned straight set victories on the top two courts to give the Cardinals a 2-1 edge over the Flyers.
BSU's Kovacevic breezed through his singles match at the No. 2 slot to begin the Cardinals rally after taking down Steven Karl in both frames, 6-1. Thibault de Negri followed suit defeating Dayton's Bruce at the No. 1 spot, 6-4, 6-4.
The Flyers would then tie the match 2-2 after taking court six from BSU.
With three courts remaining, Dayton would begin to fall like a domino effect. First off the court was Eli Herran at five singles to push BSU's lead to 3-2.
Shortly after, Chris Adams was up a set (6-1) over Dayton's No. 3 singles player Georgi Mavrodiev. Adams then lost a 5-2 advantage in the second frame to Mavrodiev, sending the second set into a tiebreaker. Adams would then prevail for BSU winning 7-6 (7-4) to clinch match point for the Cardinals.
Sajin Smith was the last match on and would register a come from behind victory after dropping the first set 2-6 he rallied back to take sets two and three from Dayton's No. 4 player Erik Eliasson.
