Men’s Tennis Sweeps Xavier for 10th Straight Win
March 07, 2021 | Men's Tennis
CINCINNATI -- The Ball State men's tennis team ran its winning streak to 10 matches Sunday with its second win over the season over Xavier, this one a 7-0 sweep.
When the teams met one month ago in Muncie, the Cardinals pulled out a 4-3 victory with Vince Orlando winning the last match on the court.
There were tight matches again this time around, but all of them went Ball State's way.
The Cardinals (10-1) got three-set wins from Thibault de Negri at No. 1 singles, Sajin Smith at No. 4 and Parrish Simmons at No. 6. Simmons took the second set in a tiebreak and then won 11-9 in a match tiebreaker for the third.
But while those three matches were still on the court, Ball State had already wrapped up the four points it needed to clinch the match over the Musketeers (2-4).
After the Cardinals took the doubles point, Eli Herran was first off the court with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles, followed by Danilo Kovacevic in a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 and then Chris Adams with the clincher, 7-6, 6-3, at No. 3.
Ball State will now ride its 10-match winning streak into MAC play. The Cardinals are slated to open a four-match homestand Friday at 2 p.m. against Western Michigan.
