Baker Again Named MAC Pitcher of the Week

MUNCIE, Ind. -- For the second time in three weeks, Ball State senior John Baker has been named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Baker, the two-time All-MAC right-hander from Hartland, Michigan, tossed a complete-game shutout in Friday's MAC opener against Western Michigan. His effort set the tone for the Cardinals' 3-1 series victory.

Baker struck out 10 while walking two and scattering four hits. He faced just one over the minimum through the first six innings in what was the first complete-game shutout by a BSU pitcher since Drey Jameson in April 2018.

The performance was the first of three straight gems for BSU starting pitchers in the series. Baker, Chayce McDermott and Lukas Jaksich combined to strike out 33 batters in 21 innings of work, allowing just three runs on 11 hits to lead BSU to three straight wins to start the weekend.

Ball State continues MAC play at home this weekend with another four-game series as Toledo visits First Merchants Ballpark Complex. Based on guidance surrounding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, general public attendance is not be permitted this season.
