Based on guidance surrounding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, general public attendance will not be permitted at First Merchants Ballpark Complex this season.
As the regular season champion will now earn the MAC's automatic regional bid, every conference series is important and it's that time now for Ball State baseball. This weekend starts a 40-game MAC regular season schedule, beginning with four games at home vs. Western Michigan.
The weekend format is four games each weekend, scheduled nine innings on Friday and Sunday and two 7-inning games on Saturday.
BSU (6-7) is among the nation's leaders in non-conference RPI and has captured big wins against notable opponents Arizona and Kentucky. The Cardinals are coming off a weekend where they were swept at Old Dominion, including a 2-1 extra-inning game last Sunday.
Western Michigan enters with an 0-6 record, as its schedule has had some interruptions. WMU has been competitive in most games and has outfielder Blake Dunn in the lineup, a popular pick for MAC Preseason Player of the Year by many outlets.
What To Know For This Weekend
-- Adam Tellier is starting to break out at the plate. He had a monster series at ODU, hitting .692 (9-for-13) and had a pair of games with four hits each. In 18 career games at BSU, Tellier is hitting .379 and has stolen seven bases.
-- Ball State led the country with a 11.12 Ks per 9 ratio in 2019. This year's staff is currently at 10.6 (good for 2nd in the MAC), and that's while facing top 100 competition every week.
-- Ball State's 2-1 loss on Sunday broke its extra-innings win streak. The Cards had won seven consecutive extra-inning games dating back to March 2019. BSU is already 2-1 in extras this year and was 3-0 in extras in the short season last year.
