Much of competing for the Ball State gymnastics team is finding the zone between serious focus on training and the alternate ego that brings out your best in the moment. Sophomore Megan Teter is an example of that, as she's found that zone on bars and floor and has given the Cardinals a lift after two meets this season.Â
"Before bars, I'm serious. But on floor I go out there and have a lot of fun," Teter said. "When I'm looking at my teammates and they're smiling at me, it gives me more feel for the routine."
Teter has been consistently strong in both bars and floor through two meets this season for BSU. She scored 9.750 on both events in the season opener on Jan. 24 and improved to 9.825 on both events last week. As a freshman last year, Teter was in the bars lineup for all 10 meets and scored 9.750 four times the entire season. She's already tied her season best bars score of 9.825.Â
"This year I feel like IÂ have a lot more confidence after competing last year," Teter said. "I am trying to have a consistent mindset and confidence in myself and my training."
Teter said she's improved on floor not only because of the confidence that comes with experience, but she has shaken off a knee injury from last year.Â
"I really like doing floor, it's the most fun to compete," Teter said. "I am more prepared this year and I try to have a good attitude and go out there and have fun."
Teter says the Cardinals should stick to their training and their plans in this weekend's meet at Eastern Michigan.Â
"For the team, we need to build off what we've been doing. If we focus on our training, that's when we succeed."
