Men’s Tennis Earns 7-0 Sweep In Mid-Week Action Against Chicago State

MUNCIE, Ind. - Prior to the match, head coach Bill Richards had expressed to his players that Chicago State was a pretty talented team and that they should not take them lightly today. Well, the Cardinals' listened to their head coach as BSU earned the 7-0 sweep over the Cougars Wednesday afternoon at the Northwest YMCA.
With the win, BSU (6-1) extended its win streak to six while Chicago State fell to 0-5 on the season.
In doubles play, BSU juniors Thibault De Negri and Danilo Kovacevic started things off right, winning a quick 6-1 match over Chicago State's No. 2 duo of Max Sandoval and Pedro Alverez.
With two courts remaining, BSU was able to take the early 1-0 advantage over the Cougars after the twosome of senior Bryce Bonin and sophomore Eli Herran clinched the point with their 6-3 victory against Javier Pradillo and Jakub Zamorski on court three.
The Cardinals continued to dominate in singles action taking all six courts from the Cougars.
With one Cougar not able to play, BSU increased its lead to 2-0 before singles started due to winning by default.
Sophomore Vince Orlando was the first Cardinal to finish after a straight set (6-1, 6-3) take down versus Jakub Zamorski at position four.
Shortly after, Kovacevic got down to business on the top court, defeating Jakov Super, 6-4, 6-1. Kovacevic's win claimed match point for BSU.
Chicago State put up a good fight especially at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, but De Negri stuck it out in the second frame to win the second set at position two.
Adams also snuck by his opponent to win his match on court three over Javier Pradillo, 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.
True freshman Sajin Smith rounded out the victories today in two sets at slot No. 5.
After the match, Richards said that Chicago State pushed them in certain situations, and he thought that was good for the team as BSU hasn't played in over a week. But overall, Richards was pleased with the Cardinals performance today.
