Opening Tip:
• Wednesday's game against Buffalo will mark the 31st time in program history the two schools have met, with he Cardinals leading the all-time series, 17-13.Â
• Ball State won the two-game Mid-American Conference series against the Bulls last season posting a 69-65 victory on Jan. 22 in Worthen Arena before defeating Buffalo on the road on Feb. 15, 69-58, at University Arena.Â
• Brady Sallee owns a 7-6 (.538) ledger when coaching against the Bulls from 2012-13 until present.
• Ball State and Buffalo's first-ever meeting was on Jan. 30 at Buffalo in 1998-99. The Bulls won that meeting 71-63 and would go onto win the next two over the Cardinals. Ball State's first-ever victory over Buffalo was in Worthen Arena on Feb. 9 by a score of 72-59.
• The Cardinals got back on the winning track again Saturday at Miami earning a 79-77 victory against the RedHawks. Although, it wasn't pretty, especially after BSU had played four games in a matter of eight days, the team was tired but powered though for the road win. The Cardinals also got to celebrate senior forward Oshlynn Brown's accomplishment of reaching 1,000 career rebounds. Brown pulled down a defensive rebound at the 6:48 mark of the third quarter to reach the milestone.  Brown became only the second player in program history to score 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds. She finished the day with 28 points and 10 rebounds for her 43rd career double-double.
Down To The Wire:
The Cardinals have taking eight of their last nine contests down to the wire and I mean down to the wire. Ball State has played two overtime contests in less than a month winning one at Ohio (88-85) on Jan. 13 and then losing to Akron (89-84) on Feb. 6. The most the Cardinals have won by in their last nine games was a seven-point margin (78-71) at Western Michigan on Jan. 30.Â
Consistent Clephane:
Anna Clephane led the Cardinals charge with a career best 24-points at Ohio. Clephane made some key baskets at some crucial times to give Ball State the 88-85 overtime road win at Ohio on Jan. 13. Clephane continues playing a vital role to the Cardinals' success after scoring 16 points in a 68-64 victory at Eastern Michigan on Jan. 23. Clephane knocked down a last second 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter that sent the Cardinals into a 20-12 scoring spree in the second period to take the 56-41 lead at intermission. She also brought BSU back to life on many occasions against the RedHawks ending the night with 12 on Jan. 27, then scored 14 points at WMU on Jan. 30, she chipped in 14 at CMU on Feb. 3, 12 versus Akron on Feb. 6, 15 against NIU on Feb. 8, 12 vs. Ohio on Feb. 10 and 17 at Miami on Feb. 13. Currently, Clephane ranks third on the team in overall scoring (11.6 ppg) and third in MAC games only (12.9 ppg.).
1,000 Points, 1,000 Rebounds:
Senior Oshlynn Brown currently has 1,358 career points and 1,002 rebounds. Brown hit the 1,000 rebound plateau at Miami on Feb. 13 to become only the second player in Ball State women's basketball history to reach 1,000 points and rebounds. Former Cardinal Emma Jones (1984-87) is the only other player in program history to get 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. Jones was the first-ever women's basketball player to be inducted in the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame.
Moving On Up:
Senior forward Oshlynn Brown is moving up the all-time rebounds list at Ball State she is currently second all-time with 1,002 rebounds. Brown needs 27 rebounds to become the BSU's all-time leader in that category which is currently owned by former Cardinal Emma Jones (1984-87) with 1,028 rebounds. She recently surpassed former Cardinal and current assistant coach Audrey McDonald-Spencer (2006-10) to take sole possession of 10th place on the all-time scoring list with 1,358 points. Brown needs 51 to move in ninth which is held by former Cardinal Char Thomsen (1995-98).
Next Game:
Ironically, Ball State will return to Worthen Arena on Feb. 20 to take on the Buffalo Bulls again at 1 p.m. ET. That game is a makeup contest due to its original postponement because of the global COVID-19 pandemic. After that, Ball State will head to DeKalb, Ill., to take on Northern Illinois at 8 p.m. ET in the Convocation Center.
