Cardinals Cruise Past The Panthers, 7-0
February 12, 2021 | Men's Tennis
The Ball State men's tennis team extended its win streak to five with its win over Eastern Illinois
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Cardinals (5-1) last four matches have come down to the wire but today Ball State was able to relax early on in the match after taking the doubles point from the Panthers (1-1). After that, Ball State never looked back.
The BSU pair of Sajin Smith and Abe Wojtalik flew past Eastern Illinois' twosome of Juan Carlos Garrido and Kyle Burton 6-1 at the No. 3 slot to get Ball State on the winning track quickly. But the other two doubles courts were both tight competitions as EIU took the early advantage at the top two spots.
After that, the top court put themselves in a good position to win their match, all it took was veteran Chris Adams' service ace to lock up the victory over EIU's Charles Courteau and Daniel Hernandez to secure the doubles point for the Cardinals.
Ball State worked quickly in singles play as well, winning all six matches in straight sets to finalize the victory.
At No. 5 singles, Bryce Bonin was off the court first, taking the first set from EIU's Garrido, 6-2 and then went on to win set two, 6-1.
Wojtalik also made quick work of his opposition on court six defeating Kyle Burton, 6-3, 6-0.
It was Thibault de Negri who picked up the clincher and sealed the win for BSU after finishing off the Panthers Daniel Hernandez on court one, 6-2, 6-4.
The final three matches were won by Smith, Danilo Kovacevic and Orlando all in straight sets at positions, four, two and three, respectively.
The Ball State men's tennis team returns to action on Feb. 24 when it hosts Chicago State at 2 p.m. ET at the Northwest YMCA.
