Swimming Sends Three To U.S. Open Championships

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Three members of the Ball State swimming program are heading to Greensboro, North Carolina this weekend for the 2021 Toyota U.S. Open Championships.

The four-day meet, which started Wednesday and runs through Saturday, will give the Cardinals an opportunity to line up against an elite field and compete on a national stage with the ultimate goal of achieving an Olympic qualifying time.
Representing the women's squad will be senior Alex Bader and sophomore Laura Wright, both of whom will be competing in the 100 breaststroke Friday. The pair enter the meet as two of the top 100 breaststrokers in program history, with Bader owning the second-best individual effort in program history at 1:01.69 and Wright holding the fourth at 1:02.59.
On the men's side, sophomore Joey Garberick will compete in the 100 breaststroke Friday and the 200 breaststroke Saturday. He is the program record holder in the 100 breaststroke at 53.99, while owning the second-best individual time in the 200 breaststroke at 1:58.41. Garberick is also a three-time MAC Swimmer of the Week award winner so far this season.
