Opening Tip:
- Today's game is a makeup contest from its originally scheduled date of Nov. 12 that was canceled due to breakthrough COVID-19 cases within the Mastodons program. Purdue Fort Wayne is the second of three schools the Cardinals will face from the state of Indiana this season. Ball State already defeated Butler on November 16 by a score of 70-56. The Mastodons are also the second of three schools that the Cardinals will have faced from the Horizon League. Ball State defeated Milwaukee in overtime 84-75 on Nov. 9. Ball State and Purdue Fort Wayne have met six times, with the Cardinals leading the all-time series record, 6-0.
- Ball State welcomes Purdue Fort Wayne to Worthen Arena for the first time since the 2012-13 season. In fact, that contest on Nov. 19, 2012 would indeed be Ball State 10th-year head coach Brady Sallee's first career win at the helm of the Cardinals after BSU defeated the Mastodons by a score of 53-46. The last time BSU and PFW met was in Fort Wayne on Nov. 12, 2019 resulting in a 83-52 win for the Cardinals.
- The Cardinals spent their Thanksgiving holiday break at the Van Chancellor Class in Katy, Texas where Ball State played three games. BSU battled against Big 12 foe Texas Tech but fell by a score of 67-71. Ball State also dropped its second contest against Stephen F. Austin (66-87) before coming home with a victory against Saint Joseph's (73-67). Redshirt junior Anna Clephane led the Cardinals in scoring at the Van Chancellor Classic averaging 14 points per contest.
- After tonight's contest, the Cardinals will remain in Worthen Arena as Ball State will host ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) foe Pitt on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. ET. This marks the second time under Sallee that Ball State has hosted the Panthers.
Agustsdottir Nearing 1,000:
Ball State senior crasher Thelma Dis Agustsdottir is nearing the 1,000 career point plateau. Agustsdottir currently has 923 points and needs 77 to become the 30th member of the 1,000 point club and the ninth under head coach Brady Sallee.
Backs, Crashers & Keys:
This year, the Cardinals are forgoing "traditional" positions and using their own such as backs, crashers, and keys, to bring a sense of team unity. That system proved to be the lift Ball State needed, especially with so many new faces on the court. BSU started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2017.
Here We Go Again:
Here we go again, the Cardinals are off to a good start with one of head coach Brady Sallee's favorite statistical categories on the box score. What is that you might ask? well it is points in the paint. Over the course of Sallee's ten years at Ball State this category is one of his all time favorites. Ball State won the points in the paint over Milwaukee 40-38, Butler 30-18 and Saint Joseph's 38-26.
Home Sweet Home:
John E. Worthen Arena has been very good to the Cardinals for the past decade. Ball State has a record of 153-83 (.656) at Worthen Arena from 2004-present. In 10 seasons Brady Sallee has compiled a 85-47 (.658) record in Worthen Arena. His best season at home was in 2017-18 when the Cardinals went 15-3 in Muncie.
Next Game:
After tonight's contest, the Cardinals return home to Worthen Arena where they will host Pitt for the second time under 10th-year head coach Brady Sallee. The last time Ball State hosted Pitt was on Nov. 14, 2013 resulting in a 58-63 loss for the Cardinals. Ball State and Pitt have faced off a total of three times with the last time being at Pitt in 2014-15. Ball State lost that contest 47-59. Pitt leads the all-time series record, 3-0.
