Field Hockey Kicks Off Fall Break With Two Home Games
October 07, 2021 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey will kick off its fall break with two home games against Appalachian State (Oct. 8) and Big Ten foe No. 6 Northwestern (Oct. 10) at the Briner Sports Complex. Friday's game is slated for a 1 p.m. ET start while Sunday's contest begins at noon.
Â
The Cardinals enter this weekend's play with an overall record of 3-8 and a 1-2 Mid-American Conference ledger while the Mountaineers come to Muncie with an overall mark of 4-4 and a 1-1 conference stint.
Â
In the non-traditional season last year, Ball State and Appalachian State split their two-game MAC series with BSU winning 2-1 (March 12) after scores from Maureen Donegan and Kerrianne McClay. The Mountaineers then took the second game (March 13) by a decision of 1-0. The last time Appalachian State played in Muncie was on Nov. 1, 2019, resulting in a 1-0 victory for the Cardinals.Â
Â
The Cardinals play one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the MAC as they are set to face their fifth Big Ten opponent and third top 25 team on Sunday against No. 6 Northwestern. The Wildcats have won the last 10 meetings over the Cardinals and bring a 9-3 mark into the Briner Sports Complex.
Â
After this weekend, Ball State continues its three-game home series when it hosts Bellarmine on Friday, Oct. 15 in conference action. The Cardinals will also pay tribute to their seniors prior to the contest which will begin at 1 p.m. ET.
