Men’s Swimming & Diving Sweeps MAC Weekly Awards

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - The Ball State men's swimming & diving program was rewarded for its strong start to the 2021-22 season by sweeping the Mid-American Conference weekly awards Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore breaststroke specialist Joey Garberick took home MAC Men's Swimmer of the Week honors and senior Hunter Ongay was named the MAC Men's Diver of the Week after their performances at last Saturday's Indiana Intercollegaites hosted by Purdue.
Garberick, who earns swimmer of the week honors for the second time in his career, led the way in the pool for the Cardinals by placing second in both the 100 breaststroke (57.51) and the 100 IM (51.51). He also swam the second leg for the fifth-place 200 medley relay (1:34.24), helping account for 66 of Ball State's 325.5 points on the day.
Ongay was Ball State's top diver, placing sixth on the 3m board (299.85) and seventh on the 1m board (289.25). It is Ongay's second career diver of the week honor.
Overall, it was a strong team effort for Ball State which finished third among the 10-team field at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center. Combined, the Cardinals turned in 22 top 10 performances in its first meet of the season.
