Field Hockey Suffers 5-0 Setback At Miami
October 01, 2021 | Field Hockey
OXFORD, Ohio - It is never an easy task to go play at one of your Mid-American Conference rivals and today that proved to be true for the Ball State field hockey team. The Miami RedHawks would shut out the Cardinals 5-0 Friday afternoon at the Miami U FH Complex.
Â
With the loss, Ball State falls to 3-8 on the season and 1-2 in MAC action while the reigning 2020-21 league champions Miami improved to 6-6 for the year and 3-0 in conference play.
Â
Ball State's defense had some stellar moments throughout the 60-minute duration having a lot of success in the first half alone. Ball State managed to hold Miami to only one goal by intermission.
Â
The RedHawks Claudia Negrete Garcia proved to be just too much for the Cardinals to control today as she got a good look at the net six times, scoring three of Miami's five goals.
Â
Agostina Giudice led the Cardinals with two promising shots on goal today but was unable to connect. Ball State also managed to draw seven corners but couldn't capitalize on those opportunities.Â
Â
The Ball State field hockey team will regroup this week during practice as the Cardinals prepare to host Appalachian State in MAC action Friday, Oct. 8 at the Briner Sports Complex. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. ET start and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
