After opening the 2021 season with a 193.500 mark and a home win over MAC favorite Central Michigan, the Ball State gymnastics team returns to Worthen Arena Sunday at 3 p.m.Â
The Cardinals, now with the experience of one meet completed, will look for steady improvement in the second week of the season. It may be true that, despite the challenges facing them, the Cards are ahead of where they've been at this point in previous years. Below is a look at how BSU has performed in the second meet of the season the last four years. Improvement from last week's 193.500 could put the Cards ahead of their recent pace.
Â
All-MAC floor gymnast Claudia Goyco is expected to compete after missing last week's meet. She tied for the conference lead in the floor last season. Arden Hudson was best on bars and beam last week, tying a career best. Three freshmen made their debut last week - Victoria Henry, Hannah Ruthberg, Suki Pfister - with Henry scoring the most points of any Cardinal. Megan Teter was the top scorer on floor last week.Â
Illinois State, which owns an average ranking of 63 the last three years (compared to BSU's average ranking of 46), is competing for the first time this season. ISU's meet last week was canceled.
This is the second of four home meets for BSU, which will compete at Eastern Michigan Saturday, Feb. 6.Â
