January 24, 2021 | Women's Tennis
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Cardinals, who haven't competed since March, opened their 2021 season on the road at Louisville Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Ball State fought hard in all its matches but unfortunately fell to Louisville by a score of 7-0.
The day started with doubles action, on the top court for the Cardinals (0-1) were sophomores Jessica Braun and Emma Peeler, the pair would lose their match 6-2 against Louisville's Andrea Di Palma and Rhea Verma.
The next twosome off the court was junior Livia Lukacs and newcomer Mariya Polishchuk who competed strong against the No. 3 twosome of Dina Chaika and Jelena Vujanic. Lukacs and Polishchuk took four games from Louisville's doubles tandem but lost the match 6-4. That match clinched the doubles point for UofL.
After that, Louisville took all six courts from Ball State in singles action. Braun was close to winning her first set at position three over Raven Neely but dropped the first frame 7-6 and then lost the second, 6-0.
Peeler was the last match on the court. After losing the first set at No. 1 singles against Nikolina Jovic 6-3, she fought back and was moments away from taking the second frame until Jovic took the late lead to seal the victory.
The Ball State women's tennis team travels to Notre Dame on Friday, Jan. 29 with first serve at 3 p.m. ET. After that, the Cardinals will open their home portion of dual action Sunday, Jan. 31 at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. First serve for that match begins at 1:30 p.m.
