Opening Tip:
• Wednesday's game against Ohio will mark the 65th time in program history the two schools have met with the Bobcats leading the all-time series record, 37-27. Ohio has won the last eight meetings over the Cardinals. The most recent victory for Ohio was  in Athens, Ohio on Jan. 18, 2020 by a score of 71-79.Â
• From 1998-2006 the Cardinals had held a nine-game win streak over Ohio. The last time Ball State defeated Ohio was during Brady Sallee's first two seasons at the helm of the Cardinals. Ball State defeated Ohio on Jan. 26, 2013 in Worthen Arena, 77-46 and in Athens on Jan. 18, 2014 by a score of 79-63.
• The Cardinals are looking to get back on the winning track after losing at Kent State Saturday by a score 61-70. Despite the loss, preseason All-MAC selection senior forward Oshlynn Brown led the Cardinals in both scoring and rebounding for the third consecutive game, collecting 16-points and grabbing 13 rebounds. It was the 37th double-double of her career for the Chillicothe, Ohio, native who helped pave the way early for Ball State with eight first-quarter points before running into some foul trouble.
• Ohio is on a two-game winning streak after taking down fellow Mid-American Conference opponents Miami (72-63) on Jan. 6 and Toledo (85-66) on Jan. 9. The Bobcats have also lost to Kent State (84-80) Dec. 11 and Central Michigan (90-87) Jan. 2.
• The Bobcats were picked to finish second in the preseason MAC polls and got three votes to win the MAC Tourney title. Ohio was also the only team in the league to place two players on the preseason All-MAC squad, redshirt-junior forward Erica Johnson and senior guard Cierra (CeCe) Hooks.
Threading The Needle:
Against Toledo, the Cardinals dished out 20 assists for a well rounded scoring spree against the Rockets on Jan. 6 with five Ball State players reaching double figures. The Cardinals have not lost a game where we have had more than 15 assists since Feb. 9, 2019. The last time Ball State had 20 or more assists in a contest was last season at Purdue Fort Wayne that game BSU dished out 22 assists in an 83-52 win over the Mastodons on Nov. 12, 2019.
Hot In January:
It may be cold outside but the Cardinals tend to get hot in the month of January under ninth-year head coach Brady Sallee. Sallee owns an overall record of 43-24 (.646) in the month of January dating back to his first season in 2012-13.Â
Last Time Out:
Despite a strong start and late run, the Ball State women's basketball team could not overcome a hot Kent State squad, suffering a 70-61 loss Saturday afternoon at the M.A.C. Center.
"It's never easy playing on the road in Mid-American Conference action," ninth-year head coach Brady Sallee said. "However, I am proud of the way we fought today, especially in some adverse situations."
While the Cardinals (4-5, 2-3 MAC) held a 21-17 lead after the first 10 minutes, the league-leading Golden Flashes (5-2, 4-0 MAC) battled back and used a 43-33 edge in total rebounds and a 17-2 advantage in second chance points to pull out the victory.
Preseason All-MAC selection senior Oshlynn Brown led the Cardinals in both scoring and rebounding for the third consecutive game, collecting 16-points and grabbing 13 rebounds. It was the 37th double-double of her career for the Chillicothe, Ohio, native who helped pave the way early for Ball State with eight first-quarter points before running into some foul trouble.
1,000 Points, 1,000 Rebounds:
Senior Oshlynn Brown currently has 1,163 career points and 892 rebounds. Brown needs 121 rebounds to hit 1,000. Brown will become only the second player in Ball State women's basketball history to reach 1,000 points and rebounds. Former Cardinal Emma Jones (1984-87) so far is the lone player in program history to get 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
Scouting Ohio:
• The first-ever meeting between Ball State and Ohio was the 1975-76 season. The Cardinals won that meeting by a score of 72-59 on Jan. 31 in Muncie, Ind.Â
• Bob Bolden enters his eighth season at the helm of the Bobcats. Boldon is the winningest coach in program history at 154 victories at Ohio. Boldon broke the program record in 2018-19 in a win at Miami and reached the 100-win mark faster than any coach in Ohio history.Â
• Ohio returns a wealth of experience this season including the dynamic duo of Cierra (CeCe) Hooks who is averaging 25.4 points per contest while teammate Erica Johnson is scoring 20.9 points per game for the Bobcats. Hooks was recently named the MAC Player of the Week.
