Jenness Named AVCA All-American Honorable Mention
April 21, 2020 | Men's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its men's volleyball All-American teams Tuesday morning and Ball State's Kaleb Jenness was named an All-American Honorable Mention.
"Kaleb played a significant role on our team this year," said head coach Joel Walton. "He was our team's top point scorer, leading us in kills most nights. He was also one of our best ball control and defensive players. I am excited to continue working with Kaleb on improving his game. He is a difference maker for our team."
Jenness was recently selected as an All-MIVA First Team performer a year after being named to the MIVA All-Freshman Team. The sophomore had a huge season for the Cardinals with 246 kills, 13 assists, nine aces, 102 digs and 22 blocks.
A native of South Carolina, Jenness had six matches with 20 or more kills in 2020, including a career high 26 at George Mason. Jenness earned MIVA Defensive Player of the Week honors for recording 10 digs in wins against Ohio State and Sacred Heart in a single week.
Jenness led Ball State to a 12-6 record in 2020 before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The season's highlights included sweeping No. 7 Penn State on the road and defeating Loyola in Chicago for the first time since 1999. That win in Chicago was also the 400th of coach Walton's career.
