Goyco Named MAC Co-Specialist Of The Year
April 13, 2020 | Gymnastics
Claudia Goyco captured attention with her floor routine all season long. Now, she's captured conference accolades. Goyco, a junior from Buford, Georgia, was voted MAC Co-Specialist of the Year and first team All-MAC as voted on by the conference's seven head coaches.
"I never thought I would be chosen for an award like this, it's incredible," Goyco said. "It's amazing that the MAC still wanted to recognize student-athletes after the circumstances we were given. I am really appreciative."
She tied for the MAC lead in both NQS and average on the floor. In 10 meets this season, Goyco posted 9.900 or better five times on floor and totaled 9.800 or better in every single routine. Her career-high mark of 9.925 at Northern Illinois on March 1 helped Ball State set the school record for team scoring in a meet, something the team had already done twice earlier in the season. Her season honors come at the end of a season that saw her be named MAC Specialist of the Week four different times.
Goyco helped Ball State to one of its best seasons. The Cardinals went 11-4 in head-to-head competition and set a new school record for point in a meet three different times.
