Teague Garners Sixth MAC West Division Player of the Week Honor
March 08, 2020 | Men's Basketball
Senior averaged a double-double in two important, decisive wins
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Tahjai Teague was named the MAC West Division Player of the Week for the sixth time, extending his own mark for most weekly awards in a season by a Ball State player.
Â
Teague recorded double-doubles in both games last week to lead Ball State to a pair of decisive wins, a share of the MAC West Division championship and a first-round bye in the conference tournament.Â
Â
The Indianapolis, Indiana, native scored 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and pulled down 10 rebounds in Tuesday's 85-68 victory over Central Michigan. He then notched 18 points and 11 boards Friday at Northern Illinois, hitting back-to-back 3-pointers as the Cardinals blew the game open in the second half.Â
Â
Friday's win pulled BSU even with NIU atop the final West Division standings, gave the Cardinals a season sweep of the Huskies and secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament.Â
Â
Teague finished the conference season averaging a near double-double at 14.9 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. The fifth-year senior surpassed 1,500 career points and 950 career rebounds last week.
Â
Ball State is slated for the MAC Tournament's last quarterfinal game Thursday at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse (formerly Quicken Loans Arena) in Cleveland. The Cardinals tip off at approximately 9 p.m. against the winner of Monday's first-round game between No. 6 seed Kent State and No. 11 seed Eastern Michigan.
