
Sixteen Field Hockey Players Garner NFHCA National Academic Honors

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced the 2018 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. The Ball State Cardinals earned 16 spots on this year's list just one week after being recognized with the National Academic Team Award.Â
The National Academic Squad began in 2001, and this year's 16 representatives under second-year head coach Stephanie Bernthal are the most Ball State has ever placed on the list. Bernthal's squad had 15 players earn the accolade last season.
The National Academic Squad honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year. This year, 1,052 student-athletes from 75 Division I institutions earned recognition.
The Ball State student-athletes named to the team were Gina Caravaglia, Alex Conrad, Abby Ferenczy, Sarah Fondel, Caitlyn Grodzicki, Sierra Jefferson*, Haley Jolly, Libby Kraus, Jenna McKune, Alison McMullen*, Angel Nkosi, Rachel Pereira*, Arantxa Rosainz Caloca, Callie Rumbaugh, Michelle Shampton* and Audrey Tabor.
Student-athletes who have received National Academic Squad recognition for four years have been marked with an asterisk.
