Teague Becomes First BSU Player to Earn Five MAC Weekly Awards in One Season
February 03, 2020 | Men's Basketball
Fifth-year senior averaged 21.0 points, 9.5 rebounds over two games last week
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State's Tahjai Teague had been one just three Ball State players ever to earn MAC player of the week honors four times in a single season. He is now the only one to win it five times.
Â
Teague was named the co-MAC West Division Player of the Week again on Monday after averaging 21.0 points and 9.5 rebounds last week. He shared the award with Northern Illinois guard Eugene German.
Â
The Indianapolis native scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds at Bowling Green last Tuesday for his fourth double-double in a five-game stretch. He went 3-for-5 from 3-point range in the game, matching his career high for 3's. Teague then scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Cardinals to victory Saturday over Ohio. He went 10-for-13 from the floor and connected on 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.Â
Â
Jarrod Jones (2011-12) and Bonzi Wells (1997-98) were the previous Cardinals to win one of the league's weekly awards four times in a season. Wells did it when the conference gave out one overall weekly award before the implementation of divisional awards.
Â
Teague continues to average a double-double during conference play at 18.1 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Ball State has now accounted for seven MAC West Division players of the week this season, with Kyle Mallers and Ishmael El-Amin also winning once each.
Â
BSU (12-9, 5-3 MAC) is back on the road for two more games this week. The Cardinals visit Kent State for a 7 p.m. tipoff Tuesday night on ESPN+ and then travel to face Western Michigan at 4 p.m. Saturday on ESPN3.
