Men’s Golf Falls to Bowling Green, Drake Takes EY Match Play Title

Cardinals get wins from Wiseman, Cunningham on final day in Florida

DADE CITY, Fla. -- In Monday's first two rounds of the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play, the Ball State men's golf team found the bulk of its success at the top of the lineup. On Tuesday, it was the other way around.
But 1-up victories from Joey Wiseman at the No. 5 position and Jack Cunningham at No. 6 were not enough to power the Cardinals past Bowling Green. The Falcons topped BSU 4-2 in the fifth-place match at Lake Jovita.
Yianni Kostouros played a back-and-forth match at the No. 3 spot, but Bowling Green's Nick Hofland won the final two holes to take the match, 1-up. The other three matches did not reach the last hole. Ball State's top two players, Keegan Bronnenberg and Joey Ranieri, suffered their first losses of the week.
Drake took down Eastern Michigan in the championship match, 4-2, to claim the title. The seventh-seeded Bulldogs knocked off No. 2 seed Bowling Green, No. 3 seed Dayton and No. 4 seed EMU along the way.
No. 8 seed DePaul defeated Dayton in the third-place match, while Loyola took down Xavier for seventh place.
Ball State will return to action March 7-8 with its first stroke play event of the spring at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Ariz.
