Tyler Green Takes Third Place at Desert Mountain Intercollegiate

Cardinals struggle to 11th as a team among quality field in Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Ball State golfer Tyler Green continued his hot play Sunday at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate, riding a 3-under-par 69 in the final round to a third-place finish.
Green, a redshirt junior from Columbia City, Indiana, finished with a career-best 54-hole of 209 (-7). Among the 72 golfers competing, the only ones better than him were Vanderbilt's John Augenstein (-15), the nation's fourth-ranked player, and Mississippi State's Garrett Johnson (-9). The 12-team field featured 10 squads ranked among the top 100 nationally.
Competing as an individual, Green was even or better in all three rounds this week. He opened with a 4-under 68 for his best career score in relation to par and then carded a level-par second round before closing with Sunday's 69. He made six more birdies in the final round to bring his total for the week to 16, the second-most of any player behind only Augenstein.
Sophomore Joey Ranieri was the top finisher among players in the Ball State lineup, tying for 24th at 224 (+8) after posting a 1-under 71 in the closing round.
The Cardinals were eighth as a team after the first round but fell to 10th after round two and ultimately into a tie with Little Rock on the final leaderboard.
Vanderbilt, ranked 10th in the country, rolled to a 24-shot victory. The Commodores finished with a 54-hole team total of 842 (-22). Their SEC rival Mississippi State was second.
Keegan Bronnenberg and Jack Cunningham tied for 27th to give the BSU lineup three golfers among the top 30. Bronnenberg closed with 74 and Cunningham 78. Joey Wiseman's 77 was BSU' fourth counter in a final round team score of 300.
