MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Although the Ball State women's tennis team dropped the doubles point against Western Kentucky, the Cardinals rallied back in singles action to capture the 5-2 victory over the Hilltoppers Friday afternoon on the campus of Middle Tennessee.
The Cardinals (2-1) managed to rebound in singles action to take down the Hilltoppers (3-2). That twosome defeated WKU's Lucia Diaz Saez and Lauren Joch by a 6-2 decision at the No. 3 spot.
Ball State fought its way back into the match in singles play. At the No. 6 spot, Livia Lukacs was the first one off the court, she won the first set 6-1 and then the second 4-1 after Zoe Wende had to withdrawal from the match. Rebecca Herrington gave BSU the lead with her 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 3 position over Laura Bernardos. Newcomer Emma Peeler pushed the Cardinals to a 3-1 advantage with her 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 slot. After that, WKU took court five from BSU, but Amy Kaplan clinched the match after beating Lisa Friess, 6-3, 7-5 on court four to seal the victory for BSU.
