MUNCIE, Ind. – After a pair of matches in California last weekend, Ball State now prepares for four straight contests on the East Coast, beginning with George Mason Thursday and NJIT Saturday.

ABOUT NO. 12 GEORGE MASON
The Patriots enter Thursday's contest with wins over No. 12 USC and No. 9 Pepperdine. George Mason's losses came against No. 2 UCLA and No. 7 Stanford. Sam Greenslade and Jack Reese lead the Patriots with 27 and 25 kills, respectively.
SERIES HISTORY
Ball State leads the all-time series with George Mason by a count of 44-28. The Cardinals won last year's matchup in five sets at Worthen Arena.
ABOUT NJIT
The Highlanders currently hold a 2-2 record with wins against USC and Lindenwood and losses to Stanford and McKendree. NJIT will play Purdue Fort Wayne Thursday which will make Ball State its fourth MIVA opponent this season. Alvaro Gimeno leads the Highlanders with 51 kills to date.

Ball State is a perfect 10-0 against NJIT in series history. The Cardinals outlasted the Highlanders in 2019 in a five-match contest.
BALL STATE STORYLINES
RECORD BOOK: Against UC Santa Barbara, senior Matt Szews broke the all-time service aces record in the rally-scoring era at Ball State University. Szews now has 112 for his career.
COAST-TO-COAST: After playing two matches against Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara in California, Ball State now heads to the opposite end of the country to face both George Mason and NJIT. The Cardinals will also be back on the coast next weekend when they square off against Penn State and Saint Francis.
RANKED FOE: The Cardinals' match against George Mason will mark its second-straight contest against a ranked opponent. Ball State last defeated a ranked team in March of 2019 when it took down No. 7 Lewis in five sets at Worthen Arena.
NEW FACES: The Cardinals welcomed four newcomers this offseason. Setter David Flores, middle attacker Wil McPhillips and libero Sammy Adkisson come to Ball State by way of Illinois while outside attacker Bryce Behrendt hails from Wisconsin. Behrendt was named the Wisconsin High School Male Athlete of the Year in 2019.
