Szews broke the service aces record with his serve at the end of the first set. He now has 112 for his career, the most in the rally-scoring era at Ball State. Chris Cooper owns the side out record with 190 aces. The Wisconsin native also tied for a team high with five digs while putting down two kills, an assist and a block.

SET-BY-SET SUMMARY
Set One (UCSB 25, BSU 19)- The Gauchos came out firing as they opened the night on a 7-1 run. The Cardinals gradually climbed back to make it the closest set of the night with a late 5-1 run of their own. Szews broke the aces record on the point before UCSB won the set.
Set Two (UCSB 25, BSU 16)- Ball State got off to a much better start in the second set as it was a three-point game early with Santa Barbara leading 13-10. A late 8-2 run from the Gauchos doomed the Cardinals though as they could not recover.
Set Three (UCSB 25, BSU 13)- Down 2-0 and desperate to keep the match alive, the Cardinals got off to their best start of the night in the final set by jumping out to a 5-2 lead. UCSB quickly regained its momentum with a 15-2 run to put the set and match out of reach and complete the sweep.
BALL STATE NOTES
-Egharevba led Ball State's attacking on the night with six kills and a hitting percentage of .444. The sophomore has seen some of the biggest improvement on the team from a year ago.
-The Cardinals suffered their first sweep since a defeat at Purdue Fort Wayne in March of last year.
-Three of Ball State's four matches this season have only gone three sets. The lone exception was BSU's win at Cal State Northridge which went five sets.
UP NEXT
The road trip continues for the Cardinals as they get ready to travel to the opposite end of the country. Ball State will visit George Mason Thursday, January 23, and then NJIT two nights later. The contest at George Mason will begin at 7 p.m. ET.
