Nearly 200 student-athletes earn a spot on the Dean’s List
MUNCIE, Ind. – The final numbers are in and once again Ball State student-athletes passed with flying colors in the classroom during the fall 2019 semester.
Ball State placed 196 student-athletes on the Dean's List in the fall semester, an increase of more than 20 from the spring semester. Forty-seven BSU student-athletes registered a 4.0 GPA for the fall semester while 19 ended the semester with a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA. Eighteen student-athletes concluded the semester by taking home a diploma at the December commencement ceremony.
"I'm continually impressed by the success of our student-athletes not only on the field of play but in the classroom," Ball State Director of Athletics Beth Goetz said. "The fall academic numbers reiterate how much time and effort our student-athletes put into their academic studies."
The women's tennis team finished with the highest mark in the fall semester among all 18 varsity squads (indoor and outdoor track combined) with a 3.66 term GPA. That number narrowly edged the women's golf (3.63 GPA) and cross country (3.63) teams. The women's golf team ended the semester with the best cumulative GPA (3.65).
Among the seven men's sports, the tennis Cardinals had the highest term GPA (3.41) and the volleyball team posted the best cumulative GPA (3.38).
Seventeen of the 18 varsity teams currently have a cumulative team GPA at or better than a 3.0. More than 300 student-athletes (307) carry a cumulative GPA at or better than the 3.0 threshold. The cumulative GPA for all student-athletes was 3.26, the second highest mark on record.
