Setting the Stage
Ball State faces its sternest challenge of the young season this week with a trip out West for its first-ever appearance at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic. The field features five top-100 teams, and 12 of the 13 squads are ranked among the nation's top 150 by Golfweek. The Cardinals, No. 120 after a strong start to the season, are the only team from East of the Mississippi River competing.
BSU opened the season with consecutive top-3 finishes, placing third at Illinois State's Redbird Invitational and first last week at Its home tournament, The Cardinal Classic.
While the Ram Classic is a new event to Ball State as a program, one member of the team is familiar with it. Junior transfer Tiegan Taylor carded a then-career-best round of 73 at Ptarmigan last year while helping New Mexico State to the team championship. Taylor is coming off her best collegiate finish with a tie for fifth at the Cardinal Classic.
Teammate Manon Tounalom edged Taylor by a shot last week and took MAC Golfer of the Week honors. Tounalom, the Cardinals' lone senior, has posted top-5 finishes in both events this fall, including a runner-up result at the Redbird Invitational.

Her teammates throw her a lot of shade, but @morgan_lewis15 handles herself pretty well ... especially when she finds herself "Short Sided" by @lizhopekim.
