Cardinals tie for sixth in 13-team field at Ptarmigan Country Club
COMPLETE RESULTS
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Led by a career-best performance from Hadley Moritz, the Ball State women's golf team tied for sixth place out of 13 teams in a quality field at Colorado State's Ptarmigan Ram Classic.
Moritz closed with a round of 73 on Tuesday to tie for fourth place at 4 over par, just three shots behind medalist Lexi Perry of Boise State. The BSU sophomore played her final 52 holes of the tournament in even par.
The Cardinals also counted scores of 75 from Liz Kim and Manon Tounalom and a 77 from Morgan Lewis on the way to a final-round team total of 300, their best of the tournament. Kim placed 11th at 6 over and, like Moritz, matched her career-best 54-hole total.
Ball State finished five strokes outside the top 5 in the middle portion of a leaderboard that fluctuated throughout the afternoon. Overnight leader New Mexico State held on to the top spot to win by five strokes over the host Rams. The event featured five top-100 teams and 12 ranked inside the nation's top 150.
This week marked Ball State's first trip to the Ram Classic and came on the heels of a win at the Carinal Classic and a third-place result at Illinois State's Redbird Invitational.
BSU will return to action Oct. 7-8 at the Silver Lake Shootout in Stow, Ohio, at Silver Lake Country Club, site of next spring's MAC Championships.
