MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team (2-5) will remain on the road this weekend when it faces Miami (3-3) in its Mid-American Conference opener Friday at 1 p.m. before closing out the weekend Sunday for an 11:30 a.m. match-up against No. 23 Michigan State (4-2).

"Miami has a strong squad again this year and will be a great first MAC test," Ball State field hockey head coach Stephanie Bernthal said. "It should be a fast-paced game—the team is focused and ready for the challenge."

The Cardinals begin league action against the RedHawks for the second-straight season. Miami is coming off of a 5-1 win against Saint Francis on Sunday. The RedHawks have won 13-straight over the Cardinals. Ball State leads Miami 44-25 in the all-time series.Â

After Friday, Ball State will face its third ranked opponent this season when it travels to No. 23 Michigan State Sunday. The Spartans enters the weekend with a 4-2 overall ledger with wins over St. Francis, Kent State, UC Davis and Miami. The Cardinals have won their last two meetings against the Spartans, defeating MSU in 2016 score of 3-2 and in 2014 by ledger of 2-1.
