Women’s Golf Edges IUPUI to Break through for Cardinal Classic Win

Manon Tounalom, Tiegan Taylor post top-5 finishes to lead BSU effort

YORKTOWN, Ind. -- The Ball State women's golf team held off a charge from IUPUI on Tuesday to win its home tournament for the first time since 2012.
Manon Tounalom and Tiegan Taylor finished in the top 5 to pace BSU in the annual Cardinal Classic at The Players Club.
Tounalom carded a team-best 73 in Tuesday's final round to lead the Cardinals to a score of 300. Ball State started the day three shots in front of second-place IUPUI and ended the day two shots clear of the Jaguars.
Tounalom took fourth place for her second straight top-5 to open the season, while Taylor finished one shot behind her in a tie for fifth for her best collegiate result in her first home tournament for BSU.

Taylor shot 75 in the final round, while the Cardinals also counted 76's from Liz Kim and Morgan Lewis. All five golfers in the Ball State lineup finished inside the top 20.
Marion DeBove and Amelie Svedja carried IUPUI to its runner-up finish. DeBove edged her teammate for medalist honors at 6 under par for the event.
Ball State's home championship backed up its third-place performance last week at the season-opening Redbird Invitational. The Cardinals defeated the other three MAC teams in the field.
BSU will head West later this week to continue its fall season at Colorado State's Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic. The action begins Monday, Sept. 23.
