
Field Hockey Welcomes Alejandro Pastor Pitarque To Coaching Staff

MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State field hockey coach Stephanie Bernthal, who enters her second season at the helm of the Cardinals, has announced the addition of graduate assistant coach Alejandro Pastor Pitarque to her 2019 coaching staff.Â
Pastor Pitarque comes to Ball State from Barcelona, Spain, and brings eight years of experience coaching overseas. In three of Pastor Pitarque's eight seasons, he has specialized in training the goalkeeper position. In 2017, The u16 goalkeeper he trained earned the Best Spanish Goalkeeper Award.Â
Recently, Pastor Pitarque helped guide his u14 boys team to a silver medal finish in the Spanish National Championship and a bronze medal in the EHL (Euro Hockey League).Â
Prior to coaching, Pastor Pitarque competed in eight Spanish National Field Hockey Championships, between u14 and u18, earning three bronze and two silver medals. Pastor Pitarque has also competed in two La Copa de Rey Championships and the indoor hockey National Championships. From 2012 to 2017, Pastor Pitarque represented the BOE (Boletin Oficial del Estate) as an elite athlete. He played a total of two years for the Catalan Team and one year for the Spanish National Team.Â
Coach Bernthal said of Pastor Pitarque: "Alejandro will bring a wealth of experience to our coaching staff. His enthusiasm is contagious and he has a great hockey mind. I look forward to him joining our Ball State Family and helping us pursue championships here."Â
The Ball State field hockey team officially reports back to campus on August 12 and will open its 2019 season with a home scrimmage at the Briner Sports Complex against Big Ten foe Indiana University on Friday, August 23 at 3 p.m.Â
