Alumni Weekend Highlights 2019 Cross Country Schedule
July 19, 2019 | Cross Country
MUNCIE, Ind.- - If you are a Ball State cross country/track & field alumni, mark your calendars for Oct. 18-19 when the program hosts Alumni Weekend in conjunction with the 2019 Cardinal Classic at the Muncie Elks Country Club.
Â
"We are looking forward to having all of our men and women alumni back for homecoming weekend in October," head coach Brian Etelman said. "We had a great time and a successful event last time we hosted alumni and look to do the same again this year. Seeing our team compete at home, having time with friends and teammates and a homecoming football game are all great reasons to have everyone back in the fall."Â
Â
The lone home meet of the 2019 season, the Cardinal Classic begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 with a women's 6K race. A men's 8K event follows at 6:15 p.m.Â
Â
However, that is just the beginning of the festivities for the program which plans to honor both its men's and women's alumni over a two-day Alumni Weekend gathering. Following the races, all alumni and their guests will be invited to a social event at the Muncie Elks Clubhouse beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Â
On Saturday, Oct. 19, the program sets up camp in CharlieTown beginning at 11 a.m. for an alumni tailgate in conjunction with Ball State football's homecoming game versus Toledo which is scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m.
Â
Prior to Alumni Weekend, the Ball State cross country program opens the 2019 season Friday, Aug. 30 at the Butler Twilight. The Cardinals will also compete in the IWU Twilight Classic (Sept. 6), the Spartan Invitational (Sept. 13) and the Greater Louisville Classic (Oct. 5).
Â
After competing at home for the first time since the 2016 campaign, BSU's distance runners will turn their attention to the Mid-American Conference Championships (Nov. 2) hosted by Northern Illinois. The NCAA Great Lakes Regional (Nov. 15) follows at the Thomas Zimmer Cross Country Course in Madison, Wisconsin.
Â
The final event on docket for the program, a potential trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championships (Nov. 23) hosted by Indiana State at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute.
