Soccer Releases 2019 Schedule
July 15, 2019 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. – There will be no shortage of opportunities to see the Ball State soccer team at home this season. The Cardinals released their 2019 schedule Monday, and it features 10 regular season contests in Muncie.
"We are excited about the upcoming season," said new head coach Josh Rife. "Our nonconference schedule will be a great test to prepare us for an always tough MAC season. We are fortunate to have our first four games at home and will look to capitalize on our great fan support to help us kick start our fall."
The first chance to see BSU in action comes on Saturday, Aug. 17, when the Cardinals welcome Ohio Valley to the Briner Sports Complex for an exhibition match. The regular season kicks off the following Friday, August 23, when Eastern Illinois comes to town. Ball State then plays home matches against Marquette, Illinois State and Loyola Chicago before hitting the road for the first time.
The first road test of the season takes place on Sept. 6, when the Cardinals travel to face Omaha in Nebraska. It is the only match Ball State is scheduled to play outside the Eastern time zone in 2019. BSU defeated the Mavericks, 3-1, a season ago. The Cardinals then make the trip to Florida where a pair of matches against Florida Atlantic and Florida Gulf Coast await.
Before Mid-American Conference competition opens on Sept. 27 against Central Michigan, Ball State will round out the nonconference portion of its schedule at home against Purdue Fort Wayne on Sept. 20. The Cardinals opened 2018 with a 2-1 victory over the Mastodons.
In addition to Central Michigan, BSU faces Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Kent State and Ohio in Muncie this season. The Cardinals will travel for conference games at Akron, Buffalo, Western Michigan, Toledo, Bowling Green and Miami.
The MAC Tournament opens on Nov. 3 with the quarterfinal round on campus sites. The semifinals and championship are scheduled for Nov. 8 and Nov. 10. at the highest remaining seed.
The Cardinals are fresh off a season that featured a 14-3-3 record and appearance in the MAC Championship match. BSU also set the program record for the longest winning streak, nine matches in a row. Ball State returns all-conference performers Emily Simmons, Tristin Stuteville and MAC Freshman of the Year Tatiana Mason along with several other key players.
Admission is free to all regular season home games at the Briner Sports Complex.
