Softball Places 10 On Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - The Ball State softball team placed 10 student-athletes on the 2019 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team as announced Tuesday (June 11) by the league office.

To qualify for Academic All-MAC honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for their particular sport (with an exception being made for starting pitchers). First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residency are not eligible.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was senior pitcher Aeshia Miles who claimed the award for the third time in her career. Earning the awards for the second time in their careers were senior catchers Olivia Huffman and Madison Lee, as well as junior outfielder Haley Dominique.

Ball State also boasted six first-time honorees in sophomore outfielder Kendall Fields, redshirt sophomore pitcher Darcie Huber, sophomore outfielder Katie Janiga, junior infielder Gabby Magnifico, sophomore infielder Stacy Payton and junior outfielder Kennedy Wynn.

A total of 94 student-athletes were named to the 2019 Softball Academic All-MAC Team, with Ball State's 10 honorees tying for third among the 11 league schools which sponsor softball.

Three of the Cardinals' 10 honorees are now eligible to be named a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete which is voted on by the faculty athletic representatives from each MAC institution. The award is presented to student-athletes from the Academic All-MAC Team who have excelled in athletics and academics and have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.
