Five Winter-Sport Cardinals Named MAC Distinguished Scholar Athletes
May 09, 2019 | General, Men's Basketball, Men's Swimming and Diving, Track & Field
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Five Ball State student-athletes from the winter sports season were named Mid-American Conference Distinguished Scholar Athletes, recognized as the "best of the best" from their sports' Academic All-MAC teams.Â
Â
Kyle Mallers and Austin Nehls from the men's basketball team, Hailley Peters and Peyton Stewart from the indoor track and field squad, and Sean Wolfe from the men's swimming and diving team earned the honor.Â
Â
Mallers was honored for the second straight year, while Stewart has now been recognized twice in both indoor and outdoor track. Nehls, Wolfe and Peters all boast GPAs of 3.95 or better, led by Nehls with a 4.0 in Ball State's MBA program.
Â
Now in its fifth year, the Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award honors those who have excelled in athletics and academics. The MAC faculty athletic representatives select the "best of the best" from the Academic All-MAC teams to the Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award list.
Â
Ball State also had six honorees on the fall sport Distinguished Scholar Athlete list released earlier this year. The spring sport list will be announced later in the year.
