Saturday Pitchers' Duel Goes To Central Michigan
April 06, 2019 | Baseball
Series finale set for Sunday
MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - Ball State found itself on the wrong end of a pitchers' duel Saturday, falling 5-0 at Central Michigan.Â
John Baker and Central's Cameron Brown were each good enough to win. Baker threw 6 shutout innings with 7 strikeouts, demonstrating a bend-but-don't break mentality and making big pitches when needed. CMU got 10 baserunners against Baker, but each time the Chippewas threatened Baker closed the door on them.Â
Unfortunately for Ball State, CMU's Brown was up to the task. He went 7.2 shutout innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 7. Only one baserunner got to 3rd base against Brown, who improved to 6-0 on the year.
Chase Sebby led Ball State with a pair of hits while Noah Powell had a single and a sacrifice. BSU had 4 hits on the day.
With Baker and Brown trading zeroes all day, the game was scoreless until Central did all the scoring in the 7th inning. Five walks and a pair of run-scoring hits did the damage.
Ball State (19-11, 4-2) can win the series finale Sunday, as the Cardinals take on CMU at noon. Chayce McDermott is scheduled to start for Ball State. Fans can find the Cards on Twitter and Instagram at @BallStateBB.
