Final Round Cancelation Caps Challenging Weather Week at MAC Championships
April 28, 2019 | Men's Golf
Tournament results through 36 holes are final, Cardinals finish eighth
AURORA, Ohio -- The MAC Men's Golf Championships started with a washout and ended the same way. Sunday's final round at Club Walden was canceled because of unplayable course conditions from more overnight rains.
Â
In the end, the league's championship turned out to be nothing more than a one-day, 36-hole shootout. With no more golf to be played, the tournament results are final based on Saturday's action.
Â
Kent State and Eastern Michigan finished 36 holes tied atop the leaderboard at 581 (+5) to share the championship. The Golden Flashes earned the league's automatic NCAA Regional qualifying spot on a tiebreaker -- cumulative total of non-counting scores.
Â
The other seven teams were all well back of the leaders but separated by only 12 strokes. Ball State never could get it going Saturday and wound up eighth at 604 (+28).
Â
BSU sophomore CJ Jones matched his best collegiate finish with a tie for third at even par, five strokes behind tournament medalist Duncan McNeill of Toledo.
Â
Timothy Wiseman capped his career with a fourth consecutive top-15 finish at the MAC Championships. The BSU senior and 2018 U.S. Open qualifier tied for 13th at 5 over par.
