April 26, 2019 | Women's Tennis
COACH NORRIS POST GAME INTERVIEW
BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Ball State women's tennis team (16-5) came back after losing the doubles point to take the match from Toledo (11-10) by a score of 4-1. With the win, the Cardinals advance to the semifinals of the 2019 Mid-American Conference Tournament and will face No. 1 Miami at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Miller Tennis Center.
Although the doubles point could've went either way, Toledo came out on top to take the early 1-0 advantage over Ball State. Victoria Sec alongside Sarah Swiderski were the first tandem of the court taking a 6-2 decision over the Rockets Claire Aleck and Eileen Carney at the No. 3 slot. Toledo then won at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively to seal the doubles point.
Ball State started its comeback early on in singles play, taking first sets on five of the six courts. Swiderski evened the score after winning in straight sets at three against Kokoro Chishaki, 6-2, 6-3. Rebecca Herrington took her opponent down on four in straight sets and after a competitive first set tiebreaker that Audrey Berger took from Toledo's top singles player Deedee Leenabanchong, she breezed through the second frame, winning her match 6-3 to give Ball State the 3-1 advantage over the Rockets.
With just three courts remaining, Isabelle Dohanics would clinch the final point for Ball State to advance them to Saturday's semifinals after her 7-6, 6-3 defeat over Thalita Rodrigues at No. 5 singles.
