Women's Tennis Closes Spring Break Action With Win Over UC Riverside

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team improved to 10-2 overall after closing its spring break trip to California with a 5-2 victory over UC Riverside.
The Cardinals won the doubles point taking all three courts from the Highlanders. Victoria Sec and Sarah Swiderski along with teammates Isabelle Dohanics and Peyton Gollhofer won on courts two and three, respectively by a score of 6-1. Audrey Berger paired up with Rebecca Herrington on the top court. The No. 1 duo beat Tia Elpusan and Sarah Khattab, 6-3.
In singles action, Sec Was the first off the court, winning in quick fashion over Khattab at the No. 6 position to put Ball State up 2-0. UC Riverside would take the top singles position away from the Cardinals, for the Highlanders first point of the day. At the No. 4 spot, Dohancis made it a 3-1 match after beating Natalie Shamma, 7-5, 6-3.
The Cardinals were in good shape with three courts remaining, Lilya Hadab pulled through with a three set thriller on court five to clinch match point for Ball State. Berger also won at the No. 2 position after a first set comeback she fought her way through frames two and three, 6-4, for the win over Elpusan.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues non-conference action when it hosts Wright State Saturday at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
