Women’s Tennis Takes 7-0 Sweep Over Wright State

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women's tennis team (11-2) continued its hot streak with its fifth win in a row in a 7-0 sweep over Wright State (8-10) Saturday night at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
The Cardinals won the doubles point over the Raiders, but it wasn't easy. First off the court was Peyton Gollhofer and doubles partner Isabelle Dohanics. The duo didn't give up a game to Wright State's Anna Marie Reynolds and Madison Riley, winning the match 6-0. On the top court, Audrey Berger and Rebecca Herrington who were the Mid-American Conference Doubles Team of the Week, played a tight match but fell by a score of 6-3. The first point of the day came down to No. 2 doubles, Victoria Sec and Sarah Swiderski found themselves trailing early on in the match to the Raiders Jillian Milano and Andreea Craciun. The match was tied on a few occasions with the last time at 6-6. Sec and Swiderski took charge early in the tiebreaker and claimed the point for the Cardinals, 7-6 (7-3).
In singles action, Ball State quickly took a 3-0 edge over Wright State. Berger was up 4-1 in the first set when her opponent Craciun had to forfeit the match. Shortly after, Sec took down Anna Marie Reynolds in dominating fashion at position six, 6-0, 6-1.
Courts two and three went to third sets and Lilya Hadab fought her way back sending her match to a third frame on court five. Herrington was down 3-1 in second set at the No. 4 position but came back to claim match point for the Cardinals after defeating Milano, 6-2, 6-4. Ball State went on to take the remainder of the singles matches.
The Ball State women's tennis team opens Mid-American Conference action Friday at Western Michigan. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the West Hills Athletic Club (Indoors) and/or Sorensen Courts (Outdoors).
